A Medical eye exam includes a medical and eye history with particularly attention to complaints you might have relative to the health of your eyes.  A medical eye exam does not necessarily include measurements for eyeglasses (see vision exam).  Medical eye exams are covered by most medical insurance policies: see our price list if your paying out of pocket. A medical eye exam is appropriate when there is a previous history of eye disesase: an injury or infection of the eye has occured: vision loss or blurred vision is present that does not seem to be related to eyeglass prescriptoin;  symptoms such as pain in and around the eye, sensitivity to light, flashes of light, floaters;  or a referral has been made to  us from another health care provider.

We are best known for our early glaucoma detection evalutions. This consists of as many as 10 tests and most often requires two visits. Dr. Stone will personally attend you, review all test data, exam your eyes and thoroughly discuss your case with you. He is committed to detected glaucoma at the earliest possible time. His  2 uncles and  father have glaucoma so he knows from personal experience how devastating the disease can be and the need for early intervention.

A vision exam consists of a lifestyle history of how you use your vision and measurement of your eyeglasses prescription—both for far and near. This is appropriate for younger patients without suspicion of eye disease where in all likelikhood any vision problem is related to ametropia: in plain English, your vision is not a perfect 20/20 and you may require glasses or contact lenses for optimal eyesight.

It includes a screening for certain eye conditions, but does not include consultation services. It does not address specific complaints or problems you might be having with the health of your eyes (aside from focusing and refractive error related vision problems.)   These services would be covered under a medical eye exam.

A contact lens visit involves measurements for your contact lens prescription and fitting you with new lenses, or recommendations regarding your current lenses.  Often this can be done on the same day as your vision visit.

Vision and contact lens examinations are paid out of pocket or part of the costs is covered by vision plans.

A combination visit consists generally of a vision visit and contact lens fit, or a medical and vision visit.  It  is not always posssible to combine these on the same day. In many instances a medical eye exam will be recommeneded first and then once the health of your eye is better understood, a vision visit will be set up with our optometrist.
